Match Hater

Match.com has expired my patience-o-meter. I myself am not a member, or a huge fan. I personally think their ads of people staring at computer screens and giggling are actually frightening and more so disturbing. I also refuse to pay money for a dating site, in this economy? Come on! Anyways, my roommate who obviously makes more money than me was looking at Match.com one day and told me, “I saw the perfect girl for me!” he was all giddy and excited and informed me he had already paid the $35 and was creating his profile. I wished him luck and left the room. Side note: when he concentrates too hard he tends to mumble profanities under his breathe that kind of creep me out. The next day I came home kind of late and was cooking some supper, and he explained to me how he was disappointed that he had messaged 3 girls and NONE of them wrote back. He was fed up with his profile content and his pictures, and was feeling a bit depressed about the whole experience. I tried to help him with some profile advice and a pep talk, but he shrugged unresponsively at my suggestion.

Moments later, he asked me if I wouldn’t mind taking some new pictures of him. I agreed, and he raced to his room to get ready (FYI this is 11pm on a Tuesday). He returned in a dress shirt and tie with sweat pants on and gelled back hair - very professional. Mind you, even though I am a photographer equipped with a good camera and flash, he insisted I use his point and shoot and take pics that looked like shit. After we had taken a few keepers, he ran back into his room to put on his casual clothes. I waited, a little confused for this unexpected departure, when he returned in a new getup holding a red plastic cup. He then asked that I take pictures of him as if he was at a party. I actually started laughing in his face, but to no avail, so away I shot – complete with a faux drink, living room backdrop. It gets better – he insisted on doing shots of him laughing and pretending to be goofing around as if he was at a party. After three pictures I just couldn’t do it anymore. This was absurd. I was actually starting to feel really bad for him! I’m on a couple free dating sites and I can only pray that the dudes messaging me are not as fucking lame as he is. *Sigh*
